Funding and transparency
What donations fund
Updated July 31, 2026. This page is kept current as the campaign grows.
Every dollar behind this campaign is accounted for here: where the money has come from so far, where donations go, and the funding rules we hold ourselves to.
Where the money has come from so far
The effort has been funded by its founder, David Jones, from the start. No partisan organization, PAC, or anonymous donor has funded any part of it. That independence is deliberate: a campaign about honest government cannot owe anyone a favor.
What founder funding has paid for to date:
- National research studies with paid participants, including the pre-registered April 2026 study and the developmental waves since.
- The campaign film and the design work behind the site and its materials.
- Building and running the websites: hosting, infrastructure, and security.
- Legal formation and compliance: incorporating the two nonprofits and the state registrations required to ask for donations.
Where donations go
Donations fund three things, in plain terms:
- Reaching Americans. Ads, organizing, and the campaign itself: putting this case in front of every American, with a goal of reaching millions before the midterms.
- The legal work. Finishing the legal framework, stress-testing it against attack, and defending it.
- State campaigns. Qualifying and passing the initiative in the first states where citizens can vote it into law directly.
As spending grows beyond the founder's own money, we will update this page with how donated funds were spent, and the organizations' annual filings will be public as they are made.
The funding rules we hold ourselves to
- No partisan money.
- No anonymous money that would compromise the campaign's independence.
- Donations are processed by established payment processors on their secure pages. Card details never touch our servers.
- We publish what donations fund on this page and keep it current.
The organizations
- The Right to Honest Government Action, a California nonprofit operating as a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization (EIN 41-4784643). Donations made through this campaign site go to the Action organization. Because it is a 501(c)(4), donations are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions.
- The Right to Honest Governance Institute, a California nonprofit research and education organization organized under section 501(c)(3); federal tax-exempt recognition application in preparation (EIN 41-4546412). The Institute runs the research program and accepts charitable support separately through its own site, righttohonestgovernance.org.
