Fund The Work
Prefer the short version?9 in 10 Americans want this to succeed.
It won't be cheap. We have to fight hard for it on your behalf, because powerful interests are getting rich off today's broken system and they are determined to keep it that way. But we will succeed. Because more than 9 in 10 Americans agree government should serve us honestly, and nearly 3 in 4 say they would vote this right into law today, with only 8% against. Your contribution funds the legal defense, the public campaign, and the long-term home for the work.
Why this needs serious money
A dishonest system serves narrow private interests better than an honest one. The people getting rich off it will spend large sums to stop it from serving the public honestly.
Most of the budget is legal: drafting the right into law, and defending it from the bad-faith challenges that come the moment the right threatens that arrangement. Most of the rest is the public campaign: reaching voters at scale, prebunking the attacks before they land, and running real ballot campaigns in priority states.
Where we stand: the work so far has been funded by the founder, plus $400 from early supporters. Every contribution from here builds the legal and campaign fund.
Where the money goes
Legal foundation
Drafting and refining every legal instrument the right needs to exist (constitutional language, supporting statutes, regulatory rules, model state-level versions). Outside counsel across constitutional, election, and administrative law. Filing and ballot-access fees. Legal defense WHEN the right is challenged in court, not if. This is what gets the right written into law and keeps it there.
Public campaign
Reaching voters with the proposal. Educational ads, prebunking against bad-faith attacks, ballot campaigning in priority states, message testing, and coalition operations. The legal foundation only matters if Americans actually get to vote on it.
The Institute (long-term home)
Ongoing research, coalition recruitment, and operational infrastructure. The longer-run vision is bigger than any one law: build the infrastructure that shows Americans what becomes possible when government reasons honestly about how to achieve our goals, and lets us choose among the real solutions for ourselves. For the smaller set of issues where we genuinely disagree on outcomes, the Institute helps people come together with the tools to choose for themselves how they want to compromise. Most of today's division is manufactured on purpose by a broken political system that uses division and dysfunction to hold power, so that government decisions serve the few and the corrupt, even when it's at the expense of everyone else. Under the right to honest government, manipulating outcomes against the interests of the people becomes illegal. And life in America can return to something much better.
Two arms, same mission
The work runs through two California nonprofits with different legal scopes: an institute organized under section 501(c)(3) for research and legal work, and a 501(c)(4) action arm for advocacy and the public campaign. They keep separate bank accounts, separate records, and separate processors. Pick the arm whose legal scope matches what you want your contribution to do.
501(c)(4): advocacy and campaign
The Right to Honest Government Action
Funds the public campaign, ballot-access work, message testing, prebunking against bad-faith attacks, and lobbying within the rules. Not tax-deductible.
ContinueOrganized under 501(c)(3): research and legal work
The Right to Honest Governance Institute
The research arm is not taking donations right now. Its IRS recognition application is in preparation, and giving will open here once the Institute is ready to accept it.
Two separate legal entities, with separate EINs, separate bank accounts, and separate recordkeeping. The C3 cannot fund campaign work. The C4 cannot fund tax-deductible educational programs. We keep those functions strictly separated and audited.
