Terms of Use

Effective July 31, 2026

Who we are

These terms govern your use of the websites operated by two affiliated California nonprofit corporations:

  • The Right to Honest Governance Institute, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation (EIN 41-4546412) organized and operated under section 501(c)(3) as an educational and research organization; federal tax-exempt recognition application in preparation.
  • The Right to Honest Government Action, a California nonprofit mutual benefit corporation (EIN 41-4784643) operating as a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization.

By using these sites you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the sites.

What the sites are for

The sites explain a proposed legal framework, publish research about it, and let you support the campaign: adding your name to a statement, offering to advise, suggesting people you would like to see stand behind it, sharing the site, and donating. The sites are nonpartisan. Nothing on them is legal, financial, or tax advice.

Your submissions

When you submit content (your name, a reason you support the statement, a suggestion, survey answers, or a message), you agree that it is truthful, that the identity you give is your own, and that you have the right to share what you send. Sign-ups ask for an email address and are confirmed by a link we send you; see the privacy policy for how that information is handled.

If you ask to be listed publicly as a supporter, you give us permission to display the name you provided on the sites and in campaign materials. Listings go live only after your email is confirmed and a human reviewer approves the entry, and you can withdraw a listing at any time by contacting us. For other submissions, you give us permission to use them to operate and improve the campaign, including quoting survey answers only where the study consent said we might, in anonymized form.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • impersonate another person or submit names, emails, or endorsements that are not yours to give;
  • use bots, scripts, or other automated means to submit forms, cast votes, or inflate counts;
  • probe, disable, or interfere with the sites, their security features, or their rate limits;
  • scrape or harvest personal information of other supporters; or
  • use the sites for anything unlawful.

We may remove content and restrict access to protect the sites and the people who use them.

Donations

Donations made through the campaign site go to The Right to Honest Government Action, a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, and are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions. Payments are processed by third-party processors under their own terms. If a donation was made in error, contact us and we will work with you in good faith.

Our content

The sites, including their text, design, graphics, and research materials, belong to the entities or are used with permission. You may read, link to, and share the material, and quote it with attribution. Published research materials carry their own open licenses where noted. "The Right to Honest Government" name and marks may not be used to imply endorsement without written permission.

Third-party services

The sites link to and rely on third-party services (payment processors, video hosting, analytics, email delivery). Those services have their own terms and privacy practices, which we do not control.

Disclaimers

The sites are provided as-is. We work hard to keep the material accurate and the sites available, but we do not guarantee either. Statements about the proposed framework, the campaign, and its goals describe what we are working toward, not promises about legal or political outcomes.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the entities, their directors, volunteers, and contractors are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the sites. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or one hundred dollars, whichever is greater.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes belong in the state or federal courts located in California.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The effective date above reflects the most recent change, and material changes will be highlighted on the site. Continuing to use the sites after a change means you accept the updated terms.
